Our project focus is the Old South End in Toledo, Ohio. This is a neighborhood that has a strong and memorable history. The goal is to restore it to its former position as a vibrant and attractive neighborhood for families and businesses.

Of course coal has its drawbacks, as anyone old enough to remember hosing the soot off a porch floor would know. Veterans Glass City Skyway, a cable-stayed bridge on I-280 crossing the Maumee River, was completed. At the time of construction, it was the Ohio Department of Transportation's biggest single construction project in history. Plant operators worked 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, with just one day off per month.

From the Erie and Kalamazoo's simple beginning, Toledo's exceptional rail system developed. Multiple railroad companies operated from Toledo's terminal and port facilities, making it a major rail center in the United States. With the development of Toledo as a railroad center, prosperity continued during the Civil War. Although a Cincinnati syndicate purchased a tract at the mouth of Swan Creek and named it Port Lawrence in 1817, their investment collapsed, and the village had to be re-platted in 1832.
Toledo continued to expand in population and industry into the early 20th century. However, Toledo was hit hard with high unemployment rates during the Great Depression. As World War II started, the industries shifted their focus on wartime production, and unemployment concerns disappeared.
The Follett House Museum is listed in the National Register of Historic Landmarks. Ohio is home to several historic homes that once housed individuals who significantly influenced the course of history—for both our state and nation.
